about

If there’s anything I hope you take from this (y’know, aside from the music), it’s the nature sounds.

There’s the birds in the abandoned amphitheater where Moonish Brute, Pendejo, Matt Hull, and Nature Shots all recorded. The natural reverb in Tuxis Giant’s living room. The guy playing saxophone on the bridge over the highway in Allston. The way the piano sounded in Magellan’s old apartment. The wind chimes on my roof competing with Jamie. The laughing. Lots of laughing. The snow audibly melting as Dimitri plays.

I feel like the nature sounds make these recordings worth sharing, almost as much as the songs themselves.

I took a tape recorder from a free bin at my old job and biked all around Boston from June 2016 to February 2017 to record these songs/sounds with local friends and friendly acquaintances. I’m not sure why I did it all. This is certainly not meant as a definitive "what's happening in Boston" compilation, so please do not take it as such. I guess I wanted to archive a city with friends that would one day disappear. No good scene or city ever fully “disappears” despite what crusty journalists tell you, but friends certainly do and that can really change how a city feels to an individual. About eight of my friends on this tape have moved since this project began. I think my friends' constant migration from Boston made me better about appreciating friendships and good people while they’re physically in my day to day life. At the very least, it made me want to record a bunch of songs and nature sounds to remember it all.

Any and all proceeds from this compilation will be donated to ZUMIX (www.zumix.org) and the Emerald Necklace Conservancy (www.emeraldnecklace.org).

This tape comp was mixed and mastered by the great Kevin King (kevin.patrick.king@gmail.com) Tracks 10, 18, and 23 were additionally mixed by the equally great Anders Olson. The photography in the booklet was done by me and a faulty disposable camera.

Thank you for listening. I hope this finds you well.
